Keeping Homemade Cookies Fresh In Your Freezer...

Living From Glory To Glory Blog

Yummy homemade cookies!!
I remember years ago when I made cookies for my family,
We would eat them up so fast. I never worried about them
getting hard or old.
Because our kids are grown and gone.
We do not eat them up as fast as we did years ago.
These cookies here are made with organic butter,
 (It was on sale!)
used this wonderful flour you can see in the picture above.

Here they are, all baked golden brown.
Fresh from the oven!
Here is how I keep them fresh for a long time.

I first put a layer of wax paper on the bottom of these round tins.
Then I place the cooled off cookies in each one.
Cover them again on top with wax paper.
Place these tins in the freezer.
They will stay fresh for weeks!

I just take a few out and put them on a plate
and in just a few minutes we have a very soft
and fresh tasting cookie.

I have used this secret with every kind of cookie,
and I have had great results.

Sometimes when I am in a baking mood,
I will bake up an extra tin or two, of cookies.
So I always have a fresh cookie to serve!
It is nice to be able to serve a homemade cookie
with  pot of tea or coffee.

So come on over and let's eat cookies!
Blessings,

  1. I have always loved how you keep your cookies fresh Rox. I will have to pull out some tins and give it a try. I am in the mood for some cookies and comfort food today (that is what I even posted about just now), and I think I will add a little baking to my list... it is the perfect weather for it don't you think? Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. I always freeze any baked goods... cookies, cakes, pies, bread, pizza... it always works! And it saves time when you can prepare ahead and just pull something out of the freezer, and have a fresh treat/meal. I remember one day last summer a friend came to visit for the day with her children. There was no way I could have cooked that day, but I had a homemade pizza in the freezer! And by midday, when four hungry kids chorused, "pizza, pizza, pizza" I just pulled it out of the freezer and popped it into the oven for a few minutes, and we had our lunch. :o)

  3. Great idea, Roxy. I make up dough and freeze it in dollops to throw a few in the oven for a fresh bake treat. I think your idea is a really good one! xo Diana

  4. That is a great tip Roxy. No, the cookies do not last long enough in this house to need freezing! I only have a small freezer in my side by side so don't freeze many meals or baked items. But I do have this recipe for chocolate chip cookies which involves shaping the dough into a log and then freezing it before slicing into rounds to bake. By doubling the recipe I can ensure I have extra logs to freeze and then it's a case of preheating the oven and whipping out a log to slice for fresh out of the oven cookies! The other advantage of the log method is you get perfectly uniform cookies.

  5. Thanks for the tip! Cookies don't last long at my house, but this is a great idea to bake two batches and freeze one. Does it work best to freeze in a tin or would a plastic container work too? Thanks so much!

  6. Thank you for the idea! I normally just put extra cookies in a ziploc bag in the freezer. I should like to try this, though I don't have any tins!

  7. Roxy, I like the name of that flour: Prairie Gold. It evokes scenes of the wheat on the prairees across the US and Canada, and makes me think of the the early settlers.

  9. Thanks for letting us know. We, too, don't have much trouble with leftovers but I might try baking a double batch and freezing one for standbys. I have frozen cake before but didn't know biscuits (ok, you all call something else biscuits) would keep their freshness without going soggy!

  10. It's been a rainy day. I wanted to bake cookies so much. I was volunteering at church today, so I just thought about it.

We eat our cookies up quickly, too. I do like chocolate chip cookies right out of the freezer.
