Learning To Play The Piano In My Spare Time...

Living From Glory To Glory Blog

Learning To Play The Piano

I am beginning to wonder about the wisdom or shall I call it the bravery;
In the reality that I am learning to play the piano...

I can hear the scales in my sleep
C D E F G

But learning where each note sits on the staff
Is a new learning curve for me!

These little notes do many things...
They step, skip and repeat!

I felt rather discouraged last week when I went to my class
And I found out I had learned a song incorrectly.

I tell you I almost wanted to quit...

Tell me when are we too old to learn something new?

I tell so many of you often in my blog posts
Never give up!

Keep running your race!

Well, now I need to apply this very same thing to myself.

If I wrote about every aspect of my life,
Or if you told me every woe and trouble in your lives.
We all would become a

Yes, I have watched it a few times many years ago!

I do not live under a rock...

Our internet is not an unlimited kind...
(This thing gives you warnings;
You are about to exceed your time limit)

But, I am pretty sure life does not give you these warnings
So you can hurriedly squeeze all the things into your day or life;
That you have had a desire to do!
So Just do it...

Look, if you would only...
Brush your teeth for 3 minutes a day
And Study your Bible for an hour daily
And if you would walk for 20 minutes every day
And eat five fruits and vegetables every single day of your life
And you must practice the piano every day at least two times a day
And remember to remember to do all these things!

You my friend would be a robot or a computer...

So there you have it...

Wait, one more thing;
We are supposed to encourage one another daily, while it is yet day!
So here it is, my dear sweet friends!!
I appreciate each of you!
Sometimes I can only just get on the computer when
I am NOT either brushing my teeth, or eating my fruits and vegetables,
Or walking, or playing the piano!
Or if I have not exceeded my limit...

~I do hope you all got a good laugh~

  1. Roxy, I admire you for stepping out into this new territory of learning the piano! I have always had a desire to play myself. I come from a musical family and have sung harmony since I was knee high to a grasshopper with my brothers and sisters...but it has all been done by ear. I have a photographic memory when I hear a new song and can learn it very quickly...that is when I don't have to rely on the notes...I know NOTHING about the notes...only if they go up or down. I can pick out songs and play around on the piano by ear and even play a few easy songs...not correctly, I'm sure! Learning the notes would definitely be a little overwhelming to me. Like I said, I am proud of you for learning this new thing!

  2. I love reading that you're learning to play the piano. I have a wonderful friend who is in her 60's who has also just begun lessons. We make time for what is important to us, it's a telling tale isn't it?
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. Bless your heart for trying something new, and persevering at it, even though it is trying and testing you! Playing the piano is not for the faint of heart, but it can be done! Keep going to the lessons, and keep practicing. It is all a matter of time! You can do it, and while you may experience setbacks, keep going forward! :) Blessings to you today my dear friend!

  5. My dearest Roxy
you think is it still possible at our age ?!?
Oh, you gave me such a blessed news !
That was a big dream of mine since I was a child which I wasn't be able to realize for so many reasons, first of all because we lived in such a little flat where there was no place for a piano ... but this is still one dream of mine ... which I still 'cradle' sometimes, but then I say to myself:"It's too late !"... but when I listen to the music of a piano I feel so amazed and fascinated, almost enchanted ...

Let me reciprocate the Delicacy and the Grace of your soul with the 'Share the love - Blog Award ' which is still waiting for you on my blog, my so precious friend !

May your week be blessed with much love, lovely Roxy
sending dear hugh across the many miles

  6. Roxy, thanks for the encouragement! I'm glad to hear you are learning to play the piano. I love playing the piano and teach a few students in my spare time. It is never too late to start learning an instrument and some of my students are adults!

I love the part of your post about how we would be robots if we lived our lives as disciplined and efficiently as possible. It's so true!

  9. Dear Roxy,
Oh how I admire you learning to play the piano as an adult. My lovely Dad passed away a year ago and I have his piano now. I learnt the very basics as a child, and didn't practise. I regret that now. I would love to have another go at learning to play. You have inspired me and I just might bite the bullet and get some lessons. Keep practising and one day you will just turn that corner and you will be a piano player. and all that practise and all those wrong notes will be worth it. One of my very fondest memories as a child was lying in bed of a Sunday evening and listening to my Dad out in our lounge room playing his piano.
    Blessings Gail.

  10. Hi Roxy, Congrats on learning to play the piano. You will love it and reading your story brought back sweet memories for me. I studied the piano for 15 years. I still play today most days and love it. You are never too old to learn a new skill and master it. Your piano is beautiful!! Keep the faith and don't give up. Practice makes perfect!!! Have fun! Blessings xo

  11. Learning to play the piano was my dream also. We had a piano and my mom played, but lessons were not affordable when I was a girl. So, at the age of 56, I asked my husband for a piano and I took lessons for three years. My piano teacher said I did great, but I was still working, so practice became more difficult, then grandkids came along, and other health issues with my husband and me. But last week, I sat down at the piano and played through one of my books. I enjoyed it so much, I am going to try to do that more often. Don't give up!

  12. Love the post Rox... and the picture. I do admire you for taking piano lessons, We should all endeavor to go after the things we have in us to do... but never get to, because of everything else that needs doing. My goodness, as you say... "just do it". Yes, it is time to live life. Loved my nice long chat with you today; looking forward to another. Keep those finger exercises going girl.
    Hugs,
    Pam

  13. Hi, Roxy! I'm so excited about your piano lessons. I've been playing the piano since I was 9. My Mom sent me to the music school. I didn't like it at first, but when I first tried to play - the music charmed me.. Thanks for reminding me of these wonderful moments.
    Blessings,
    Katherine

  15. Oh Roxy....practicing at the piano was my favorite task. I was in my 30's when I learned to play. We have since sold our old piano, and I really miss it. You just wait....all of a sudden, you will "get it", and it will be a delight for you to sit down and play. Keep working at it, my friend, it's worth the effort.
    Love you.

  16. Yes, you gave me a laugh, learning the wrong song. haha
I am applauding you for taking on the piano.
I took 6 years of piano when I was young and I don't remember any of it.
So keep practicing. When your first recital? I'd love to be there cheering you on.

  17. I learnt the piano as a child and was a hopeless student (unlike my brothers). I never practiced enough , in fant I strongly disliked practicing which is probably why I wasn't very good!! Practice really does make perfect (or almost perfect!!). Enjoy.

  18. We should always be striving to learn something new. Keeps our mind active and young! ;)
I wish I could play the piano, lessons as a child showed me I do not have any musical affinity, and I'm okay with that. :)
