The Jesus Calling Book Is A Very Scary Devotional...

If this blog post will open even one ladies' eyes it is all worth it for me!
We do not like to rock the boat or step on toes, but a false teaching is like
Drinking a bit of poison each day;
Eventually you will believe a lie and die...

Sarah Young writes,
This is what is written in the first few pages of this book!

I knew God spoke to me in the Bible;
But I was hungry and I wanted more...

She waited with a pencil in hand!!

Firstly, I want to say that I bought this book for a devotional for myself,
I thought it was so good and I bought a few copies for my dear friends.
I now feel very bad that I did this;
Because after a time I realized that this book had some real issues!

After I read it, I saw some things that were very unsettling for me.
It reads like it was to be on the same level as scripture for one.
(Very DANGEROUS)
I also saw that it really hit the emotional button for women!
(Almost a romance novel written to each lady)

We now have a church that expects and believes in
"Divine Revelation Knowledge"

A devotional book that is written from the divine leading;
Is what my dear ones is what scripture is for!!
Written by
"The Holy Spirit"

Mostly Ladies are so drawn to this type of material!
I feel like I was deceived and that really bothered me...
So for that very reason I now write this post!
So maybe you will see the error of this false doctrine!
This devotional now sells to not only the women, but men and children!

If you are of the Apostolic movement you believe in divine revelation daily.
But I believe after the New Testament was written
"The Cannon Was Closed"

We are told NOT to add to God's Word

The battle is raging over the sufficiency of God's word!

Remember, Sarah Young said herself, she wanted something MORE...
Sounds a bit like Eve in the garden, she had everything!

We are told to contend for the faith!!
But now days the faith is now put in YOUR Faith,
See the danger?
God is not your lover or husband!
He Is GOD
"Yes, He loves your soul and He cares about you in every detail!
But this practicing His Presence and waiting to hear Him speak is,
(Very NEW AGE)

This book is written in the first person FOR Jesus to each lady reading it...
(I Jesus will do these things)
DANGER, Why??
Because that is only done in the Bible!
Is she writing "Scripture"
This is where you must look at this and decide for yourself Dear Ones!

Once again we ladies are being fed a warm and fuzzy Jesus, with a very emotional side!

Ladies eat this up!

I can write this blog post because I was not discerning enough at first to see the errors!
But I no longer feel that this book is sound in any way!
Beware!!

  1. Amen Roxy!!! I'm so thankful you are putting forth this warning! I have also warned, but it has not been received. Sarah Young is using an occultic method called "automatic writing...whether knowingly or unknowingly. It's so true that women are caught up in this book emotionally. I've talked to a woman who in tears told me about one of the entries & yet is not a "Bible reader." In this case Sarah Young's book was elevated ABOVE Scripture. It IS scary. Scripture is all sufficient!!!!
My mother is the one who pointed out the author's "salvation experience." Nothing is said of repentance or a change of heart.
The site, Lighthouse Trails has good information on this as well.
Thank you for contending for the faith! God bless!

  2. I received this book from my mom a few years ago for Christmas. She gave one to my daughter as well and had them personalized with our names on the front covers. I started reading it, and within a few minutes I threw them both in the trash. I couldn't even give it to the thrift store. I felt bad but I had to. Thanks for sounding the alarm. ~Diane

  3. Yes Roxy, I agree with you. I heard of this book when it first came out and felt within myself not to buy it. I now believe it was the Holy Spirit leading me. We are told as believers to "live and walk by faith" and trust God for His spirit will lead us in the way we should go. Thanks for posting.

  4. Thanks for writing this!
As someone who's practiced new age and witchcraft before being saved, I can agree with you wholeheartedly! It's shocking to find how much new age and occult stuff have crept into Christianity.

God's Word is enough. If it doesn't feel that way, it worth talking about with God and other believers. I guarantee the issue isn't with God's Word. (I'm sure we've all been in a spot where God's word didn't FEEL like enough sometimes.) Going to other places or seeking an experience or a feeling won't help in the long run.

No matter what your convictions about how the Holy Spirit works in our lives today, no experience, sentiment, or feeling should ever usurp Scripture.

I'm glad for you sticking up for God's word!

    -Christina

  5. Oh my....as my friend says...the most dangerous lie is the one closest to the truth. Thanks for the heads up, I was going to order some books from this author. We will have to pray for her

  6. Thank you so much for this post. My copy was a gift and sent to the garbage. Any woman that needs a book of instruction use the Bible, that God breathed.

  7. Roxy, thank you for having the courage to speak out about this book. A dear friend gave me a copy, and after reading a couple of pages, I felt a warning from the Holy Spirit about this book. I put it away and haven't read any more. I'm especially alarmed by books that speak in the first person, as coming from God or Jesus. People read these books and accept the author's opinion as Scripture. Yes, as someone said, the Bible plainly tells us that we are not to add to or take away anything from Holy Scripture. What a dangerous trend! God, through the Holy Spirit's leading, is perfectly capable of speaking to our hearts through His Word. Thank you again for this warning and please continue to speak the truth as God leads. I'll be praying for you, Bev

  8. Excellent warning, Roxy! I too, have tried to warn women about this book but they don't listen. It's very compelling and so many of them eat it up. Thanks for being faithful and true to the WORD and for having the courage to speak out! Love & hugs...

  9. I am so thankful that you have written this post! So many women are led into these sort of devilish teachings through what seems to be good. Just knowing that for the author the Bible wasn't enough...just tells me that she is not being led by the Holy Spirit of Truth.

We are to test all things and prove all things....that you have done! Thank you for sharing so that others may be warned!

    God's Word is enough.

  10. I know nothing of this lady that wrote the devotional, but I applaud you for standing up and showing where you were deceived and you now are warning us against this book, God will honor you for your understanding of this and sharing so that others will not have to go through what you did...I thank God for you and your willingness to be open and honest with us as so many wouldn't do that...blessings dear one...sue

  12. I tend to avoid anything that is overly popular after reading a number of Christian books that were best sellers only to find that the books raised too many concerns for me and I felt too uncomfortable continuing to read them. This one has rave reviews on Amazon with thousands of comments with 93% of commenters giving it 5 stars. I agree that many modern Christian books written for women are all warm and fuzzy and do not focus on the scriptures as its centre-piece. This new-age trend is of grave concern.

    Have a great weekend
    Hugs :)

  13. I have felt a strong hesitation about this book each time I have passed it in the Christian book store, so have never bought it. My dear Papaw used to say that God will never let an honest soul be deceived. I believe if we will seek Him with our whole heart, He will always be faithful to send those hesitations to protect us from false doctrine and deception. "Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee." If we have His precious Word hidden there, we will automatically know when something does not line up with it. Thank God for His precious Spirit that is so faithful to stop us in our tracks, when we are headed in the wrong direction. Sending you much love and many blessings, sweet friend. :)

  14. What a blessing you are, Roxy. Thank you for exposing this book for the error that it teaches. We were given a copy when our Austin was called home to heaven, and we threw it away. As Diane said above, it could not even be given to the second hand store. How much wisdom and discernment we need in this day and age! How precious it is that we have the Word of God (the Bible) in its complete form. You are right...the Canon is closed. May the Lord use your words of encouragement here to keep many from error. Hugs, Camille

  15. Thank you so much for posting this. As someone who has had a weakness for New Age and witchcraft in the past the absolutely last thing I would want would be to be drawn back in under the guise of a Christian devotional! Reading the exerpts linked up top gave me chills.

  16. I never felt comfortable with this book the few times I picked it up. I think it's very dangerous for someone to presume to speak for God, and we should be extremely wary of "revelations" of this sort. Always check everything against Scripture. And to be honest, I don't trust most things that are "popular."

  17. Thank you for this post!!! I agree 100X!100%! God's word is very precious and we are not to add or take away from it in anyway. It is our FINAL authority! So glad to hear or should I say read this post. So many women are being deceived by Satan in a very subtle but real way. Thanks again!

  18. Thank you Roxy for this post. Many women are being deceived by this book and don't want to hear the truth about it. I appreciate your courage for posting this.

  19. Thank you for taking a stand against this book. I was given a copy as a gift and only read a short bit when I realized it belonged in the garbage. Unfortunately the women I have tried to talk to about it think it is wonderful. I appreciate you stepping out in faith and warning people.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  20. oh, thank you so much for this post. I have never heard of the book you are referring to but you made me stop and think about another book I am reading which is set up like a daily devotional-it has scripture on each page but it also has words that this person says God spoke to them.
I realize now I should put that book down and pick up the Bible!! You are right to state that the Bible has everything we could ever need and we need our time studying that book and forget about the rest.
Thanks for a very important reminder.

  21. Roxy, your a wise woman. You were right in some advice you gave me about new age type material and I learned later you were right. The way this thinking is in all media is disturbing. Thanks for the warning. Scripture is the only truth!

  22. Good for you!! This is the same old Gnosticism that's been around forever, only in new covers. Even 'the women's Bible' always bothered me, as though God has a different gospel for women. There's so much of this cultural Christianity around today which has nothing to do with Christ, but everything to do with drawing a self- centered generation even further away from the truth.

  23. Oh Roxy, I too picked it up at the Christian book store and immediately felt something wasn't right. Thank you for this post, you just confirmed my feelings.

God bless you my dear sister, you are a blessing to both the saved and the lost.

    In Jesus,

  24. When this book first came out, I picked it up in a bookstore, and after reading the first page, I put it back with a cold chill in my heart. Jesus Calling... nope... I want nothing to do with such nonsense as she is purporting in her writings. Thank you for sounding the alarm! The enemy does not care how he deceives, and most of the deception is as Shirley said, quite close to the truth. God can speak to our hearts, but HE will never speak anything that contradicts the principles of his Word. Appreciate your willingness to speak the truth!!!

  25. Interesting - the first I've seen written about this book. I received it as a gift a number of years ago. I never felt quite right about it, but didn't give it much thought. I've only opened it a few times, each time closing it. Now I know why! Thanks for the links to the reviews on the book. ~ Abby

  26. Dear Roxy... Thank you for sharing the warning about this book. I do own it and coming to realize that it is quite different from others. Amazing to me that even a Bible has been made with her thoughts added to them.

    In the garbage it goes...!!!

  27. Roxy,
Thank you for your warning about this book. It's scary to see children's versions of this book. I've heard some very disturbing things about it and I plan to run as fast as I can if our church start's promoting it or starting a study on it.

I really appreciate your comments! May they be kind and helpful to encourage my walk, and bless others as they read them. Thank-you!
