Sunday Dinners...

Sunday Dinner, Living From Glory To Glory Blog...

There was a time when Sunday Dinner was considered a pleasure.

The aroma of a pot roast cooking or burgers on the grill;
It was family time...

Grandmas and Mothers took the preparing of this meal as a joy.

We always expected company,
So we always added a bit extra to the pot.

Dinner is served on Sunday at 5:00

It can be done in such a fashion that makes all feel welcome.
It can be done as easy as you need it to be!
It can be done because God gives you the strength!
It is to bring life to another, the substance of sharing a meal together!

Well, here is a nice safe place to do it!
Around your own table...

We live in a culture that thinks they need to share every moment of
Their private lives with you!

I want to connect with an Old Fashion Tradition...

SUNDAY DINNERS

Make it simple
Make it elaborate
Make it from the heart
Make it and they will come...

One day a week to reach out and yet stay HOME
Stretch your imagination,
Cook most of it a day before,
A Casserole
A pot of soup
A sandwich
A pot of simmering spaghetti sauce!

Feed our souls...
Feed yourself...
"Because those that refresh others will be refreshed themselves"

Be refreshed Dear Ones
Be Cheerful
Become not just a house
But be a HOME
That says
~ Welcome ~

  3. What a wonderful way for me to start my week, Roxie, Sunday dinners /evening meals are becoming obsolete, thank you for writing this. I remember when I was young how our meals were served each day usually at the same time, food was made from scratch, served with love, devotion, and our conversation around the table was enriched with even more love. There ere no devices at the table to deter family time. Oooh! how this generation is missing out, thank you for this gentle reminder.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  5. I certainly miss family Sunday dinners. When we lived in Nebraska we had Sunday dinner after church at my mother and father-in-law‘s house every week. But then we moved to Spokane. And here it’s just my husband and I now, the children have all moved for their jobs. We used to invite people to our house after church but that wasn’t done out here. People seemed to feel as if they were intruding on personal space. So we usually go out to lunch with about 10 to 12 other people after church and we leisurely sit around the table for an hour or two visiting. I guess it’s better than nothing. But I do miss the days of being in the home. It’s more personal. Blessings, Betsy

  6. Amen dear Roxy. May we so let our light shine... at home in hospitality.. with our heart. Living a life truly for Jesus..
I remember our baked meals on Sunday in my youth. We loved them! Must admit though our mum said it was family day ie just family not our friends. They could come the other six days a week!

  8. Oh...now you've gone and done it, making me homesick for my sweet Mom. Sunday dinner at our house was the noon meal and it was always so special. Visions of Mom's fried chicken or her yummy beef and noodles come into my mind. Dad always told funny stories of when he was young and we kids would always say, "Tell us another one, Dad!" Sometimes aunts, uncles and cousins would stop in and other times we all got in old Buick and went for drives out in the country, sometimes getting ice cream on the way home. What precious days they were! Thanks for stirring up the memories!

  9. My two sons have moved out now. They work odd hours. The only time they can both come for dinner is Sunday night. So it's dinner at 6 for us on Sundays now. A few weeks ago, one son surprised us with a young lady friend. We just welcomed her, set another plate and enjoyed ourselves.

  10. I love this idea of a Sunday dinner with family. When I was first married we would go to my father-in-laws for Sunday dinner every week while he was alive. I really miss that and had wonderful times with him. My husband and I usually have a quiet dinner together which is nice.
Thanks for this uplifting post. Hope you have a Happy Valentine's Day.

  12. Sunday dinners are another tradition that has fallen by the wayside. People are so busy and don't want to do the work it takes to create a lovely get-together. But that doesn't mean we can't continue the tradition, right? Lovely post Roxy. xo

  13. Roxy,

I have fond memories of Sunday dinners at my great-grandma's home and my grandma's. My mom always made a nice Sunday dinner too. I am grateful that all three taught me how to cook, and the importance of family. My mom and I always joke and say we are from Mayberry. : )

May you have a blessed day!

  14. I grew not knowing what Sunday Dinners, were.
Today, we have Tuesday Dinners. Every week our daughter, husband and 6 kids come over for dinner. We decided on Tuesday because we are at church for most of day on Sunday. We rarely miss. We get to see everyone and our daughter doesn't have to cook.

  15. You brought back such wonderful memories of Sunday dinner Roxy! Mom always made more than enough, and friends/family were often invited over for Sunday dinner, and it was always such a lovely time to spend with each other visiting! Much better to visit in a home, than in a restaurant! My mother's favorite meal was homemade pizza. She would make the dough in the morning, let it rise through church, and then we'd bake it once we got home. It was always amazing, and we kids still talk about that homemade Sunday dinner pizza. I cook meals at home every day with the only exception being perhaps on Saturday if we have to go to town. Sunday evenings we have a bible study in our home, and I cook a large meal, and everyone brings a side dish or dessert. It is such a beautiful blessed time of fellowship. I really enjoyed your post today! Blessings and hugs :)
