A Marriage That Stays Together Is Like Silver...

Living from Glory To Glory Blog,

A Silver Tea Pot

You have all heard the saying;
"They were born with a silver spoon in their mouth"
I just assumed it meant being born rich...

Well, I was not born into a wealthy family, but we had all we needed...
Sure, we could of had a lot of things,
I remember a few times thinking I wish I had that!
But let me tell you what I did have,
I had a purple stingray bike...
It road as smooth as butter on mashed taters;
It was my one priced possession as a child growing up in a time of history
Where everything was changing...
Homes were being divided as so many adults chose to get a divorce;
It was like a plague had hit our neighborhood!

Fear of hearing of some of our friends parents divorcing put shock waves into
The neighborhood where we lived.
Well, I can tell you this;
My parents were one of those families that did get divorced!

And I found myself hurting so deep inside...

But it was that purple stingray bike that my Father had bought me after
Their divorce that helped hold me together!

So what does a silver tea pot have to do with me?

Well, After being married for many years, I asked for a silver teapot!
It just was one of those things that always seemed like it would last forever.
They are tough and thick and yet lovely and strong...

Life can be so fragile...
Can something like a purple stingray make a difference in a life?
Can a silver teapot mean more than just a little teapot?

You bet they can...

It is a good thing not to have everything,
But so special to have something that means something!

But we can learn a lesson here, even with a silver teapot;
They are lovely, but you don't use it everyday,
You need to polish it every 6 months or so to make sure it shines;
But a bike can roll through all sorts of troubles and you can use it everyday!

I realize now that even all the money in the world would not of
Made me happy,
But;
If only my parents had stayed together.
~That Would Of Made Me Happy~

Special care for silver require a bit of polishing and special cleaner,
And a bit of elbow grease. But it is nice to have and to use for a special occasion.

A Marriage that stays together is worth more than a silver spoon or a purple bike!

  1. Amen dear sister:)
    I'm sorry you had such a difficulty, I too suffered through such times. I am glad to know our heavenly Daddy will never leave us or forsake us. Purple bikes are nice, but they don't make up for the losses faced in divorce......so glad we know The One Who makes broken hearts better.

  3. How sad to read the ripple effect of divorce in your day... And now, there is much less marriages to even warrant a divorce...

    I hope your week is off to a good start Roxy and thank you for the encouragement.

  4. Today as I read this, I pondered my marriage.
    TODAY(yes today), we celebrate 36 years of marriage and I couldn't be any happier!
    Like everyone else has said, it's not always easy. There were times I wanted to quit but God said, NO!
    I know I'm blessed beyond words.
    So, thank you for sharing these wise words.

  5. Such a sweet post Rox. I love your stories and the pictures you paint with your words. I was one of those casualties of divorce when I was growing up too. I had a stingray bike as well… but I love your sweet connection to it. I think the hardest part of those years to me were all the terrible words spoken… those words put a fear inside of me that Jesus later healed. I have desired in my life to speak kind and gentle words, and instill that in my marriage and children. I'm so thankful for HIs grace.
    Love and blessings,
    Pam

  10. Roxy,
    Such a wonderful post.
    In these times.... people do not take getting married or getting divorced seriously. They figure if they don't like it... they will just get divorced.
    Growing up I didn't know but one or two friends that had divorced parents.... now it is the new norm. Very, very sad. The family unit has been seriously compromised.
    As spouses and parents we need to bring God back into our daily lives. It saves marriages and has a positive, life long effect on children.
    Your posts always move me.... sometimes to tears. I am reminded how great God is and how blessed I am.
    Have a lovely day and may God bless,
    Elizabeth

  13. You're so right Roxy.

    My parents and my husband's parents both divorced.

    We've been married 28 years.
    We're permanent.
    We vowed to God and to each other.

    We will never say the D word. No matter what.

    Hugs to you!
