They Call It A Silent Killer, High Blood Pressure...

Hello Dear Friends...

Just an important message on the culprit thing called the silent killer!
High Blood Pressure

I have learned so many new things about Blood Pressure;
When I first started feeling really weird and I had no idea as to what was causing it!
I was very concerned and a little frightened...

When you have never felt a certain way before, and you can
not explain the weird symptoms you are feeling;
Headache
Dizzy
Lightheadedness
I could hear a rushing sound in my ears when I laid down!

Thankfully, I was feeling a bit under the weather so I went
To my doctor, I think it was God's providence!
They took my blood pressure reading and it was very high!
Then by the weekend I was in the ER with an off the chart high reading.
They did nothing for me they just assured me I was not dying!
They just did not want me to stroke out (really)
 And as it was on a Sunday, that was the only place to go!
They told me to go to see my physician in the morning;
So I went to my doctor first thing in the morning...

As I tend to believe that diet and lifestyle will cure anything!
I googled everything
I kid you not I was convinced eating celery would cure me.

Firstly, I want to mention that some high blood pressure;
Is completely from genetics...
Before we think that all blood pressure can be completely
Controlled by diet or supplements!
NOT
These things can help control it, but not make it go away, if it is genetics!

They gave me some medication for it!
I was never so glad to take a medication in my life.
Also, there are different kinds of medicines they give.
Diuretics;
Beta blockers
ACE inhibitors
Angiotensin ll receptor blockers
Calcium channel blockers
Alpha blockers
Alpha-beta blockers
Nervous system inhibitors
Vasodilators

They put me on the ACE inhibitors
ACE stands for angiotensin-converting enzyme.
This class of drugs inhibits production of the hormone angiotensin ll
Which usually causes blood vessels to narrow,
Thereby increasing the pressure inside

Just another curve in the road called life...

Hope you are all doing well and learning new things,
And taking pleasure in your days...

I so appreciate all of you that come and visit me and leave a comment!
I realize we are all so very busy, and it does take time to respond!

  2. I've had high blood pressure for years. I eat right but I take medicine. Every now and then it goes a little crazy and my doctor doesn't really know why. But I stay on top of it.

    Take care of yourself.

  3. Oh my goodness! I don't comment often, but would you believe I have had the same exact symptoms for the last two weeks? When they interrogated my pacemaker this week, they found that I was experiencing major episodes of tachycardia. Dozens of them over the last two months, which was raising my blood pressure to over 200! Since I've always had very low blood pressure it was a shock. I had your same exact symptoms. Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness and a rushing sound in my ears when I lay down. They put me on a beta blocker. Yesterday. I certainly hope you're feeling better. I'll be praying for you.
    Blessings, Betsy

  4. Oh my...how scary for you! I am so glad that they were able to find a medication that worked well for you. My husband has struggled with HBP ever since we have been married...family genes and all. I have not had a problem with this and I thank the good Lord for my genes...mom & dad both living into their 90's and neither one of them had this problem. I sure hope you are feeling better, Roxy. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. Hi Roxy, So glad you went to the doctor and got the help you need. For me, my high bp is genetics and I understand how you felt in the ER, because last February when I was in the hospital for surgery mine skyrocketed too-how about 190/110. The told me I was in the right place if I had a stroke(not very reassuring). I have been on meds for 10 yrs, they added one and then I checked with my doctor. Mind you-I'm a natural cure kind of girl and hate being on meds, but it beats having a stroke. So now I take my meds and also take supplements to help lower it naturally. I think it has helped but at times I know it gets higher-like driving in Ca. this last weekend.I'd love to get it to normal and be off the pills, but don't think that will happen.
    Stay healthy dear friend!
    Hugs, Noreen

  6. That is quite a frustrating diagnosis for it to be something genetic, and not easily changed by healthy living, dieting, or exercise! Are you trying other home remedies, I saw in your picture some different things that can help high BP. I wish you the best of luck, and hope that with this medication that you will be able to feel more like yourself! Thank you for sharing your journey with us, and what you have learned! Have a blessed day my friend! :)

  8. Hi, Roxy. I hope you're doing better now; thanks for the warning. I have hypertension as well, managed with one drug and diet and exercise. I started eating healthier and exercising more following the diagnosis and cut a lot of processed, high-sodium foods out of my diet.

    God bless and take care of yourself!

  10. It was lovely that you stopped by for a visit at my place last week....it's always a blessing to hear from others who love the Lord! We also have a mutual friend in Pam...just thought you'd like to know. :) Ohhh...high blood pressure is scary for sure! One thing I have noticed that affects mine is coffee....when I am off the stuff it resumes a normal level. For me, it seems, coffee is not a good thing. I trust you will know a measure of relief from the strange feelings you have had and will feel back to normal soon. Hugs, Camille

  11. Dear Roxy, I hope you are feeling better by now! It's scary when we know something is wrong but can't pinpoint what it is. I'm glad they were able to figure it out. You take care and rest.

  12. Food and lifestyle can help our health but there are times we need a doctor and medicine. I changed my diet, up the exercise and but could not bring down my high blood pressure - high blood pressure runs through my family and no matter what I do, it won't bring it down - my only choice is a very low dose of medication and now it is completely normal. We should not be afraid of medication or feel guilty for taking it or be told by some that food will cure all - it just won't.

    Prayers that you are feeling better :))

  15. I can totally relate to this post. The wooshing in the ears was so weird. I'm glad you got to the Doctor. That sounds similar to what happened to me except I went to the Drs. office when they were having lunch. They thought I was crazy until they took my blood pressure.
    Scary.

  16. I too have had my BP high as high as 160/96. I have refused meds for fear of the side effects. I have conquered it and now my BP has been normal. Lost weight, exercise, taking magnesium, trying to sleep better. I know that it's genetics so these methods may not keep the problem away permanently but at least I have gained some time away from meds. I am petite and was weighing 119 Lbs. Now I am 104 Lbs. I have given in and started cholesterol pills (which I fear it since it causes early Alzheimer.) Anyway...I know that when nothing works meds are the only way. I am not telling anyone to do what I did since the decision to go or not to go on meds is between you and your doctor and no one else. I enjoyed your blog, it is beautiful!!

  17. I'm glad you sought help for your high blood pressure. I've spent the last ten years watching my father struggle with high blood pressure. He couldn't make it through a day's work and he was absolutely miserable. Like you, he recently went to the doctor and got the help he needs. He feels better, and I hope you do, too.
