  1. Amen! I tryvery hard to only check email and blogs in the morning and then at night after my husband goes to bed. Instagram can actually take over your life. I've only been on it for a couple of months, but it can very quickly be something that you have to check every hour or two or you get so far behind you feel guilty because you've missed someone's post and you don't want to hurt their feelings! At least that's the way I am. We were so busy over the weekend I didn't get on Instagram at all and I still haven't and I feel very guilty. But I don't feel the need to post everything I say or do or eat. And as for Facebook, I haven't been on that much at all lately. I don't like many of the attitudes I see on there.

However, I have made some very good friends through social media that I never would have met in "real" life because of the distance between us. I feel very blessed that God has put those people into my life. I think there is a time and a place for social media as long as you don't let it take over your life as you said. Thank you for this post.
    Blessings, Betsy

  2. Hummmm... the Holy Spirit didn't just nudge me, He gave me a huge push!

A few months back, during the winter when we were snowed in for weeks, I was knocked over! I felt the push and turned off my connections, other than phone calls! I weaned myself off of FB and I couldn't be happier! I don't even watch or listen to national NEWS.

Now that it's Spring, I hear the birds, wind with clothes flapping in the breeze, and school children getting off the bus to run home. What could be better??
I know what's going on all around me. I now listen!

  3. I agree that it is the saddest thing that people have exchanged real life relationships for their activity online. It is for that reason we don't have smartphones, and the only social media outlet I have is blogging, where I feel that the relationships I have made really are a blessing to my life. I agree with the post you have shared so much. Disconnecting from a virtual world is so important in able to really live in the world we are in. I think more and more people are realizing this message to be true, and that is a good thing.

  5. Everything has it's place and we need to keep it there so it doesn't become a problem in our lives. We must always be in reality! I read a blog once that had a button....don't read my blog. Then underneath it said if you have laundry to fold, dinner to make, and more such things suggested. The Lord and home comes first and we need to keep it that way!
Unplugging from time to time is very good to keep us all in check. :)

  7. Thank you - amen and amen! I am grieved to see a generation that cannot communicate without technology. Even my own mother, who just turned 60, cannot visit me without putting down her iphone. The grandchildren say "Look at me, grandma!" and she is busy texting. The grandchildren visit and out come the ipads. Oh yes, it is all for business and work and for something worthy, but it is eating up so much of wonderful time. I detest cell phones for this reason. Yes, they can be used for good, but so much more for destruction. I gave up facebook 5 years ago and have refused to buy a cell phone, much less a smart phone. I use a landline if I need to. I do not live in the cell phone world and wish more people would join me.

  8. Great post! I find that I don't so much struggle with social media, but I do struggle with my phone in general. I am always on it... listening to podcasts, texting, reading, etc. It has its place, but I am trying to be more conscientious and leave it in another room to enjoy family time.
