Never Grow Old Mom: Coulda, Woulda, Shouda...

I really enjoyed this picture for a couple of reasons;
Firstly, I think all of us deep down inside are still really wanting to be young!
And I mean young at heart!
Still willing to be agile in spirit...

My son something to me the other day, that I will remember
For a very long time...
It was this; He said Mom, don't ever grow old!
So many people get way too old before they are even really that old.

Ageing gracefully is not what I am referring to here!

The second reason I liked this picture is this
We hopefully will be like the shadows dancing inside and not the other way around!
Not really living anymore!
No spring in your step or a song in your heart!
Tired and old and weary and sad!
Inside and Out!
That is what my son was saying...
Stay YOUNG inside Mom!

My older Brother sent this to me, and I thought it was worth sharing,
To a few thousand over 50 ladies or so.

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word 'refrigeration' mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ' Jeopardy ' on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , 'How about going to lunch in a half hour?' She would gasp and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain' And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches.. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of 'I'm going to,' 'I plan on,' and 'Someday, when things are settled down a bit.'

When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-Decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to...not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask 'How are you?' Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, 'We'll do ittomorrow.' And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say 'Hi'?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....Thrown away..... Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

'Life may not be the party, we hoped for... But while we are here we might as well dance!'

Remember Dear Ones to Dance inside till the cows come HOME!
Till He calls us HOME... And not before, so don't stop living NOW!

  1. Hi Roxy! There's a lot of wisdom in this post, and just common sense too. '

I think my advanced age (over 50) has allowed me to let go of some fears and 'go for it' in a way I wouldn't have at a younger age. I worry less about what others will think, and decide based on what I think. Well, me and God that is! It is a liberating feeling.

I have ice cream in the freezer...guess who's having a bowl tonight? LOL!
    Great post my friend :)

  2. Great post, Roxy. I know so many OLD people that are younger than I am. One of them, a friend of mine, says I just don't want to go out to eat THAT LATE-hello???? 6pm? Do you fall into a catatonic state at 7, or what?
I believe in living life as much as I can-although I will say I always have a list of "must dos" and "should dos" running through my head most of the time lol
By the time I get it all figured out-I'll be dead I guess! lol xo Diana

  6. Roxy, this was such a great post. This is how I think I live my life. I don't want to get old before my time...whenever that is! And then when I do get old, I still plan on being the coolest old lady around! :)

  7. Hello Roxy,
it was so nice to get a little visit with you this evening before bed. So nice to catch up. Such a good reminder in this post. It is important to remember these things. We musn't get into old age ruts.. it isn't good Love the picture. Very precious. Also, loved your previous post and have been meaning to leave a comment, but could't get there until now… not because I am old or even too busy; haha, just pacing myself if you know what I mean. I will be praying for your trip these next few days. May it be blessed journey.

  8. Firstly I love that picture too - that is how I see myself - dancing in the inside!!

Secondly I just love those words - live life and stop worrying, it gets you no-where. I sadly watch my mother and see her pain and negative comments and wish that she would just laugh and see the joy. At 81 she has completely lost her spark and hardly ever laughs any more and struggles with smiling. I want to go to my grave smiling and seeing the beauty around - I never want to feel old in the inside. I have coped those words and plan to put them into my journal as a reminder. Thankyou so much for reminding us to stay young at heart.

    God bless
    Jo

  10. My last comment on this post was in 2014. It's now April 22, 2018. One year after finding the lump. I've spent the last year in this cancer fight. It's in remission now, but I have months of treatments left. I hurried through my life. I to do'ed through my life. I don't know whether I have another year, another decade, or three, but I don't want to waste it anymore. There are still things to do, but no one remembers whether I dusted last week or not.

    God bless you friend!
    Hugs,
    Laura
