Lavender And Lovely
Peace And Grace
Saying nice things about other people...
Open your mouth and I will fill it!
What is coming out of your mouth?
We are only given a few hours everyday to impact others!
Did your Mother ever tell you if you don't have anything nice to say
"Don't say anything at all"
Now, if we would heed this wise advice from our Mothers,
It would be a much quieter place in this loud world!
It is getting so loud at times we can hardly think;
And when others will only say things that bring discord and unrest.
We can learn to exercise mouth control;
Or we can call it damage control...
One thing we must teach our children and ourselves is it is almost
Impossible to retract a statement,
Unless of course you are a lawyer or a liar.
It can take only a few short words to bring destruction or harm to little ears.
Or to break a woman's heart!
Or to crush a man's ego!
Remember the words?
The sinking in the pit of your stomach;
Your heart literally feels broken.
Your continence just falls!
A wound has resulted...
All because the tongue was wagging or bragging!
A gentle reminder Dear Ones;
Stick and stones may break my bones.
But words can't hurt me!
Who really believes this?
I do think it is true, Roxy. We should all take a deep breath before we say something. I learned this a bit late in life...and maybe I am still learning. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteMouth control is much better than damage control, something I have had to learn the hard way I am afraid.
ReplyDeleteA "gentle reminder", but such a good one! The tongue can cause terrible pain and even when they are apologized for, the words can remain in the memory. It is so important to think before we speak and be a blessing rather than a cause of distress. Thanks for this great reminder!

I have had to discipline my tongue all my life. I wrote Ephesians 4:29 over my desk everywhere I ever worked, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth but only what it necessary for building others up that it may benefit those who listen." My mama always used this verse to tell me how what we say not can hurt the person we talk about but also the one who listens, because at that time they begin to think a certain way based on what you say. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteTruth! Things that were said to me years and years ago still creep up and try to hurt me from time to time. I try to remember that when I speak to my kids. We've got to be so careful.

Yes it is so true; the power in the tongue works good or evil. I have been the recipient of both and I have learned that everything that comes into my head does not need to be said… it wants to be, but much of it needs to be filtered and brought captive, be quieted or let go of. Listen, love, enjoy speak less… I'm still working on this.

ReplyDeleteA powerful reminder gently spoken {written}. James 3, of course, exhorts us to tame our tongue that small member that can bless or curse. So many scriptures exhorting us to control this small member of our body, of which that remaining flesh rises up and out of at times.
Thanks for the lovely reminder and encouragement to count our words...quiet versus being a loud, clanging cymbal.
Blessings,
Your post reminds me of the verse in James: the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. God rebuked me with this passage once after I indulged in the sin of gossip. I love the sound of silence, also love when my daughter thanks me for being a kind and gentle mom (on the good days!)
