Why I do not do witches and black cats and evil scary things!
Firstly, let me tell you a story,
Witches are real and they love to do what witch's do...
When I was but a very small child I went trick or treating with my older
Siblings and we went house to house all dressed up in our costumes.
And we carried a pail to put our candy in.
Well, I always seemed to be the last one to get my treat
And was the last one off the porch usually.
This one particular year I was dressed as a Gypsy.
I was shocked and surprised when this lady started saying some
I can remember being very afraid, and I realized even as a child.
This was not a game, but something strange had happened.
I tripped over my long skirt and dropped my bucket of candy.
I fell off the porch and hurt my leg.
My siblings were half way down the block!
I realized even as a child I just knew;
I had had an encounter with a witch!
I must tell you once again when you participate in this activity,
You will be exposing yourself and your children to evil things.
I also believe we can instill fear in our children that can last
I doubt the discernment of those that think it is just healthy fun!
It is not glorifying to God or in your children's best interest!
May you realize if you do do this Halloween pagan tradition
Beware, as I can attest to things that are not particularly wholesome.
I also realize evil is always lurking;
But on this particular time we have helped him by setting the stage.
And willingly have open the door to evil and scary stuff.
In our culture we seem to not be shocked by much of anything anymore!
We now have a program called The Good Witch.
Years ago we watched the program Bewitched.
Some Christians use it for a time to evangelize others.
Personally, I think it is wiser to NOT participate in anything
I am thankful that my children when they were little did not
But as our children married and had their own children
But only after a few times of doing it with their children,
They saw and felt the dangers their children were exposed to.
"One time they all went together and a man chased them down the
I have many other stories about this pagan activity
But I will save them for another year!
Remember this is a blog that tries to train and teach!
Living From Glory To Glory
Amen, Roxy. Halloween is an evil time.
ReplyDeleteEven as a child, I hated Halloween, much to my mother's disappointment. She was most happy when my much younger sister came along and they could decorate and go Trick or Treating; something this stubborn female had refused to do, even at four years old.
Thank you for this post.
I agree...
ReplyDelete"...what communion hath light with darkness?"...
~ 2 Corinthians 6:14b
Here in this area a lot of the churches have Harvest parties to celebrate the harvest of fall. A safe place for kids to go, socialize and have fun. Wish there were more areas that did this.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I hate Halloween because of its pagan origins, love of bloodshed and death, and its fearmongering. The only fear I need to have is the fear of the Lord!
ReplyDelete~Lady Virtue
I think that even the Harvest Parties need not be done on Halloween, but rather sometime before the date Of October 31st!
ReplyDeleteStay home and watch a good family movie and serve popcorn and some sweet treats!
Great post Roxy!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I am told that I could just alter the occasion, I think of this passage.
Ephesians 5:6 -11Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Be not ye therefore partakers with them...in any form. Harvest is not equivalent to Halloween. Biblical separation from this evil is needed. I know for experience that it is a perfect opportunity to witness to unbelievers for they will clearly see that we stand with the Lord Jesus and not the darkness of this pagan celebration.
Dearest Miss Roxy...
ReplyDeleteThank you ever so much for sharing your heart on this rather tender issue...I am thankful to never have celebrated Halloween...or even had anything to do with it... I am also grateful that it is not such a big thing here in South Africa.
But I am very aware of how evil it truly is and it makes me sad to see how many participate in this ''harmless'' idea fun.
I greatly appreciate your post...very wise words!
Thinking of you and sending love your way...

I agree with you Roxy. About 3 years after being saved, my husband and I both were convicted on halloween. I never liked being scared like that. It all started to make sense. What I can't understand, is why do we Christians(?) feel the need to copy and imitate the world and have "harvest" parties at our "churches"? Who are we fooling? We are just pacifying and tolerating evil. Do we do it so our children can have candy? To "feel" like the world as to not be different? We SHOULD be different. Many will say churches use it to share the gospel. Let's do that our Lord's way...not imitating the world. I will go out in a limb and say it's because many parents don't want to tell thier chidren no. It's a perfect time for children to have a lesson in being in the world..not of it. For those who say," it's just for fun". I have seen church's who have just funned themselves straight to disobedience.

ReplyDeleteThe idea is to be A Light in a dark place.
I just ran an errand into a neighboring town, and every single one of the businesses had a skeleton in front of their shop, dressed to reflect their business. (e.g., the jeweler had a skeleton with jewelry on it). I must have seen 50, and I only went through part of the town. I thought it was hideous.
ReplyDeleteOur church considers it an outreach and we have trunk or treat. We have food trucks out and lots of candy in the trunks. We also have a big open truck wherein children go in and hear the story of hearts and many children have accepted Christ as savior.
ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly with you. We do not participate in any way with Halloween. Unfortunately moat people at our church think we're crazy, that it's just "fun". I appreciate your post greatly.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Dear Roxy,
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to have found your blog. Although my children were raised with the knowledge of the Halloween culture, and are faithful in many ways, they are yet to take leading from scripture in this area. The fun and cute factors rule. Sigh... needs of extra rest today will give me more time to ask our Savior to guide my loved ones. (Perhaps I'll be able to read thru more of your posts in the next little while. You are His treasure!). Thankful, Deedy
Thank you so much for this post! It is so true! I wish other Christians would understand that they are playing with fire. Our church has a fall festival and we do it in the middle of October to keep it away from Halloween!
ReplyDeleteYes, thus is true! I read the bible this year and all through it God makes it very clear he hates pagan practices. I look around this year and I am amazed at how numb we are to evil now. I was the worst offender here on my blog. Not anymore. Blessings Roxy.
